What does Carolina mean to you?
Carolina means the world to me. I know that may sound very cliché but the reason I say this is because students at Carolina represent the world, from world views to racial/ethnic backgrounds. With over 700 student organizations Carolina still remains that place that can offer optimism in the midst of pessimism and success in the face of defeat. Carolina is more than a university, it’s a family; a family of professors, students, housekeepers, groundskeepers, etc. Carolina is the place that you can feel comfortable to form your opinions about the world, learn about the world and most importantly ask questions. I couldn’t think of a better university to attend because in my opinion nothing even comes close to Carolina!
Explain why you want to serve as Mr. or Miss UNC.
I am not a traditional Carolina student in any sense of the word, yet I also did not have the typical Carolina experience. However, despite this I have grown to have an immense love for this great university. In developing this love I have become a bit immersed in organizations rather than the Carolina community. While it is great to identify with different organizations it is ultimately important to come together as a Carolina community to do the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. Thus, I feel if I am fortunate enough to become Mr. UNC, I will be able to (with the help of the Carolina community) embrace the community and bring all 700 organizations together to do some great things. This is an opportunity for everyone to become involved, unwavering to political affiliation, social class, etc. just a time for Carolina students to come together to show the rest of the world the Carolina Way.
How do you exemplify the Carolina Way through academics, leadership and service?
Carolina is the best-rounded and well-balanced university in the world. When coming here students essentially receive the “trifecta” experience of academics, extracurricular and social activities. Since coming to Carolina I have tried to immerse myself in a variety of different activities and events while still maintaining a high level of academics. Within these different activities I have tried to exemplify and personify the Carolina Way. I do that by taking a vested interest in everything I become a part of and being sure to look at things as what they could be rather than what they are. I’m confident that even beyond graduation I will still be living the Carolina Way.
